Ingredients

  • 15 Seedless Dates
  • Hot Milk - 148ml/ 1/2 Cup + 2 tbsp Hot Milk
  • Vanilla essence - 0.6ml/ 1/8 tsp 
  • Oil - 60ml/ 1/4 Cup
  • Whole wheat flour - 60g/ 1/2 Cup 
  • Cocoa powder - 15g/ 2 tbsp 
  • Baking powder - 2.84g/ 1/2 tsp 
  • Baking soda - 1.42g/ 1/4 tsp

Recommended Equipment / Tools

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, soak 15 seedless medium sized dates in milk for 3 hours. 
  2. After 3 hours, grind the dates and milk mixture into a smooth paste like consistency.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C for 10 mins and line any tray of your choice with parchment paper. Here, I have used a silicone mould and hence, I’ve brushed with little oil. 
  4. Add oil and vanilla essence to the dates mixture and mix it until well-combined.
  5. Sieve whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking powder and baking soda into the mixture.
  6. Mix well until a smooth batter is attained. Be careful not to overmix as it can lead to hardening of the cake.
  7. Fill the batter evenly in any tin of your choice.
  8. Bake at 180°C for 25 mins or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean. If the toothpick comes out moist and sticky, the cake requires additional baking time.
  9. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool for 5 mins. Serve and Enjoy!!
